Anastrozole, 120511-73-1: When Your Sperm Goes To Pot

Anastrozole, 120511-73-1: when your sperm goes to pot

Even if you don’t want to be a dad, the fact that marijuana has an adverse effect on the behavior of your sperm is no reason to light up. Someones will buy some arimidex for backup.

The American Journal of Epidemiology describes a study involving 1,215 Danish men, aged 18-28, 45% of whom said they’d smoked pot within the past three months. Those who lit up more than once a week, had a 28% reduction in sperm count.  Worse yet, the sperm count of the guys who combined the weed with other drugs like cocaine or ecstasy, was down by over half of what’s normal, even the anastrozole was taken time by time.

According to the study’s lead author, Lani J. Burkman, Ph.D., assistant professor of gynecology/obstetrics and urology at the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, “the active ingredients in marijuana are doing something to sperm, and the numbers are in the direction toward infertility … whatever the cause, (they’re) swimming too fast too early.” (Seems counterintuitive, right?)

Sperm exposed to the chemicals in marijuana exhibit characteristics similar to those exposed to cigarette smoke: they’re more susceptible to damage and less likely to fertilize an egg … and create an embryo that will survive.

By the way, women who smoke weed were also implicated when it came to messing up their own fertility. The chemicals get into the vaginal fluids, which -- as expected — would contaminate their partner’s fluids.
